About Seibewal
I lost my husband when he went to the bazaar and somebody killed him. Two months later two of my babies were killed when a rocket exploded in my house. So I left my house and moved to another area of the city, but all of our belongings were stolen. I was only four months in my brother’s house when another rocket came and killed all of my mother’s family—mother, brothers, and sisters. I escaped with my three remaining children. After that I washed clothes for neighbors and others because I had to take care of my children. But I couldn’t earn enough money washing clothes because sometimes there was no work, so I sent my children out to work. I sent one child to work in a butcher shop and the others out to wash cars. Unfortunately, a rocket landed in the butcher shop and killed the owner. The boy was also injured and has not recovered. Now I only make money with this quilt project. The boy needs medicine. Sometimes I forget my sickness and mental problems because I’m so concerned about my son.
What things have given you comfort during your life?
Peace in Kabul was very good for me because I can work and support my family. Getting rid of the Taliban made peace for Afghanistan and gave an opportunity to have jobs so I can support my family.

What particular part of Islam has helped you the most?
(crying and angry) Because in Afghanistan, all people are Islamic, now I hate Islam. Because during this time, all the people who made a problem and stole were all were Islamic people. …Muslims have such good points, they never kill, never make a problem, never steal, never do things against other people. But here in Afghanistan there is no Islam.
