She was one of the founders of the Democratic Women&#8217;s Organization which was supported by the Communists and also used as propaganda by them to show how much they&#8217;ve improved the lives of Afghan women. Ultimately, they imprisoned Suraia and put her on the \u201cdeath list\u201d but at the last minute she was pardoned by a rival Communist faction who had just come to power.
